sabukaru Presents: Dasakawaii
sabukaru is happy to present an editorial brought together through a group of Tokyo-based creatives on the concept of “Dasai-kawaii or dorky-cute.
Despite it’s literal translations, “Dasai” transcends mere labels like dorky, tacky, or outright lame. Instead, it embodies a delightful contradiction. Although tagged as being Dasai, numerous characters from Japan have captured hearts globally, proving that popularity isn’t hindered by such classifications. This phenomenon is akin to the affection many hold for their ugly Christmas sweaters, celebrating their garish charm. True blandness lies not in the embrace of tackiness, but in dismissing it without appreciation. Thus, we proudly showcase the charmingly cool and endearingly cute essence of Dasai.
What is “Dasai”
